God Story DTS

Hello,

I am Javell. First off, I just want to a sorry. I for a long time have not been sharing an update/newsletter with you about DTS since the beginning. I ask that you forgive me. I wanted to send a newsletter to you all, especially those who have sent support to me, since December. I felt that pressure building to keep better in touch, and in some ways that pressure made it more difficult to bring myself to write this. I am sorry for that.

It has has been a challenging experience with positive moments (I will share more at the end of this newsletter). I am also not used to making Newsletters, but I was encouraged to share about DTS. I hope you enjoy the brief information I share in the update :)

What is a God Story DTS?

Above is a short video summarizing what the holy spirit has been doing so far.

Inside the Classroom

For the God Story DTS, we learn Bible Stories from Monday to Friday. Those stories include classic Bible stories such as creation, Joseph, Moses, Abraham etc. We memorize the stories, learn how to apply it to our life, and express what we learn creatively - that can be through song, drama, art, hand shapes, and other ways. We do it as a team together.

Also, we have times for abide/quiet time/devotional. We check our hearts, recognize areas for repentance. We also have time for intercession on Tuesdays and Thursdays, where we sometimes pray for other nations.

We also have times together to bond as a group. We had an opportunity to kayak together, and that was fun.

One of the stories I enjoyed most is about Joseph - In that story Joseph is in prison, but through God, is brought before Pharaoh to interpret his dreams. Through that experience, Joseph interprets the dream correctly, is freed from prison and uses his knowledge to save the people. I see how God prepared Joseph to save his people ahead of time.  I also see how Joseph was able to forgive his brothers even after they sold him into slavery. He was patient during the suffering for many years of injustice, and was able to express God's love.

Times of Ministry

On Tuesdays, we memorize a story in the morning. In the afternoon, we teach it to adults at Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf (CCCD), and also to kids at Jamaican Christian Centre for the Deaf (JCSD).
On Wednesdays, we invite Deaf people in the community to YWAM to share the stories.

On Sundays, we have a small Deaf gathering at Harmony Beach where YWAM and the students lead together. We have a time for getting to know each other ("Love one another"), sharing the stories, and worship. We also encourage the people attending church to also memorize the story and apply it to their lives.

And then recently we went to CCCD in Knockpatrick for a week to share the Bible stories there with people. I wanted to meet more and teach, but I mostly supported the other students as they taught the people there. We also went to a Jamaican Deaf community called JDV where we worshiped, had a drama, and one man even received Jesus that night. He felt lost, but now in that moment was found - him and his family.

Thank Yous & Prayer Requests

I just want to thank you for supporting me since this time, for praying for me, thank you for keeping encouraging me and staying faithful. I appreciate that. If you need prayer yourself, please let me know.

- Pray for me for my thoughts would be positive and truthful, for me to grow more in love with God, to grow as a Christian.

- This DTS experience has been challenging for me. I feel sometimes I am behind and trying to catch up memorizing the stories. Sometimes I get nervous. I need help to depend on God's wisdom and not my own. Pray that I would receive his love, and stay mentally strong.

- Pray for the other students and myself and the people we share these stories with. And as the DTS prepares for outreach to Ethiopia
